A message from the president

Hi Everyone.

I am honored to have begun my tenure as Salem, NH Exchange Club President and I welcome any ideas, comments or words of wisdom from all!  Of course, I look forward to seeing old and new faces at our weekly meetings and as always, anyone is invited to attend our board meetings.

I look forward to having several social activities such as our annual Past President's Night and our annual "cookout" at the Sussman residence. We'll have some other socials, as well, I'm sure!

I look forward to helping our communities through our various programs of service.  The committees formed and those who rose to the occasion to head these committees will be the major force in helping our Club achieve our goals for the year.

Please, come be a part of the fun and comradeship that is the Salem Exchange Club!

Thanks!

Richard

What you missed at lunch.

We have been giving away money like drunken sailors! Almost a presentation per week!

We're also enjoying the company of several new members, harfing down excellent food and having a great time every Thursday from noon to 1:00 at the Park Place Lanes lounge on Rte. 28 in Windham, NH, which we get as a private room for our club meeting.

Doug had twenty "Giant Checks" made at the beginning of July and we're blasting through them - doing all kinds of great work in Salem, Windham and Derry, NH (plus, of course, the Michael B. Christenson Family Support Center in Lawrence, Mass.) with our poker and Christmas tree fundraising proceeds.

In Late August 2008, we donated 96 Wal-Mart gift cards to needy children through the Town of Salem's "Back to School" program. That was $2,400 given back to our community from Texas Hold 'Em proceeds! The gift cards are used to buy back to school clothing and supplies for the kids.

In September, we voted to donate to a child in Windham who has gone deaf. We wanted to help his family pay for special hearing aids that cost some $6,000 dollars!

Another good deed is helping with the cost of insurance co-pays for a local woman who has lung cancer and is in the thros of treatment.

October 30th 2008:
We had a great lunch today with a lot of special guests. Dick O’Shaughnessy, Pat Hargreaves, Michael Simone, and Joanne Simone joined us for lunch.

Pat gave us some great details about getting involved in the Salem Holiday Parade. This year the theme is “Christmas for our Troops.” Pat and his committee are selling ribbon magnets to help raise money to ship care packages to our troops overseas. You can find these magnets for the bargain price of $5.00/each at Pat’s Lock and Key, Mike’s Red Barn, and at their November 11th Veterans celebration or you can contact an Exchange club Member. The Board of Directors will be discussing the Salem Exchange Club possibly handing out flags during the parade for our project Give-a-kid-a-flag-to-wave.

Angelo Fisichella was also pleased to introduce our guest speaker Michael Simone (& his wife Joanne) who educated us a little on clinical nutrition and how the body works. Attached is a handout from him and you can also get in touch with him at Main Street Nutrition in Salem.
